Crystalens
Imagine being able
to see your world as well as you did when you were younger, without the
help of glasses or contact lenses. Being seen the way you want people
to see you.
Youthful.
Energetic. Vibrant.
Being able to see the way
you want to see. Near, far and all distances in between. Seamlessly.
Effortlessly. Naturally. Never missing a child’s smile, the sparkle of
a diamond, a cloud that looks like a face, an important plot twist in a
mystery novel. Imagine a way to do it. Through your own eyes. Imagine
all the possibilities. Imagine Crystalens™.

What is Crystalens?
Crystalens, a single-focus
lens, is a cataract replacement lens that works naturally with your
eyes’ muscles to give you the quality of vision you enjoyed when you
were younger. The revolutionary design element that makes Crystalens
the state-of-the-art replacement lens are “hinges” which are designed
to allow the lens to move, or accommodate to focus on objects near, far
and all distances in-between seamlessly.

Unlike old-style fixed focal
lenses, which didn’t move, Crystalens has the ability to move, thus
focusing as your eye’s natural lens does. Dr. Cohen will take
precise measurements to insure the correct power selection.
The Crystalens Procedure
The medical procedure to
implant the Crystalens is the same safe, proven cataract
surgery performed annually on over 7 million eyes globally.
Over 65 million procedures have been done in the US in the last 25
years.
Typically performed in an
outpatient surgical facility, the actual surgery takes less
than 10 minutes. In this procedure, your doctor will
place a few drops in your eye, then use an ultrasonic probe to remove
the cloudy lens from your eye. The Crystalens is then gently placed
where your original lens used to be.
Once surgery is
complete, Dr. Cohen will place additional drops in your eye to
prevent infection and decrease inflammation. Because Dr. Cohen creates
the incision in a special manner, it heals quickly on its own, without
any need for stitches.
Why I've chosen to invest in Crystlens:
The Crystalens offers
significant advantages over other kinds of lens implants and corrective
lenses.
- Standard (single vision) lens implants don’t
have the ability to provide a full range of vision. Most people who
have single vision lens implants MUST wear glasses for middle and near
vision.
- The Crystalens has the unique ability to
focus on objects at varying distances using the eye’s natural muscle.
This means the Crystalens can provide sharper vision, without
corrective lenses, throughout a full range of vision from near to far
and everything in between.
- The Crystalens FDA one-year clinical study
results indicate that 92% of the people enrolled in the study
(implanted bilaterally) could see 20/25 or better at distance, 96%
could see 20/20 at arm’s length and 73% could see 20/25 at near without
glasses or contact lenses. What is more exciting is that 98% of these
people could pass their drivers test, 100% could see their computer or
put on their makeup, and 98% could read a magazine, all without glasses
or contact lenses. Also, your ability to see at approximately arm’s
length (middle vision) will be greatly enhanced with the Crystalens.
- With Crystalens, the quality of vision
compared to wearing bifocals and/or trifocals is significantly
improved. You’ll have a full range of vision, without having to tilt
your head to find that portion of your glasses that allows you to see
clearly. You simply look at something and the Crystalens, mimicking the
natural focusing ability of your eye, will automatically focus your eye
at near, arm’s length, or distance.

Visian ICL
More than 50,000 patients
have given up the hassle of traditional contact lenses for the
convenience of the Visian ICL, the first lens of its kind to receive
FDA approval.
The Visian ICL is an
implantable contact lens that's surgically inserted in front of the
natural lens of the eye. The procedure takes about 15 minutes. The
invisible lens requires no maintenance. It's often an option for those
who aren't good candidates for -- or aren't interested in -
LASIK.
About the
Visian ICL procedure:
A week or so before your lens is inserted,
Dr. Cohen will make a small opening with a laser to
allow fluid to pass between the lens and the front chamber of the eye.
The actual Visian ICL
procedure takes approximately 15 minutes and is performed on an
outpatient basis. Your eye's natural lens will not be removed.
Normally, very little discomfort is associated with this procedure. Eye
drops will be used to numb your eyes and you may receive a mild
sedative. Eye drops or oral medication may be prescribed after your
procedure.
Why
I offer our patients the Visian ICL:
- Quality of vision
- The Visian ICL offers sharp, clear vision with excellent contrast.
The lens is made of Collamer, an unique material that transmits light
and reduces reflections that can interfere with vision.
- Safety - This
unique lens is inserted through a micro incision. The procedure takes
approximately 15 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.
- Removable - The
Visian ICL doesn't change the structure of the eye or the cornea.
Although it's designed to be permanent, it can be removed with a simple
surgical procedure.
- Invisible and undetectable
- You won't be able to see the Visian ICL in your eye, and neither will
anybody else. Exceptional quality of vision will be the only reminder
that you have a Visian ICL.
- Excellent for a wide range of
vision correction needs - Anyone seeking clear vision
may be a candidate for the Visian ICL, including patients with thin
corneas or extreme vision correction needs. The Visian ICL does not
cause or contribute to dry eyes.
Dr. Cohen will be
glad to answer any questions you have about the Visian ICL. Or to find

IOLMaster
In
cataract and some refractive surgery,
or lens-replacement procedures, vision is improved by
replacing the eye's natural lens with an intra-ocular lens (IOL). IOLs
come in different powers and sizes to compensate for each patient's
individual needs. For best vision after cataract surgery, precise
measurements must be taken to determine which IOL to implant. The
IOLMaster is a high-precision instrument revolutionizing all previous
techniques and setting a new standard for IOL calculations, called
optical biometry.
Optical biometry using
IOLMaster does not subject our patients to any discomfort. No local
anesthesia is required and there is no risk associated with taking the
measurements.
Why I've invested in the IOLMaster:
- The difference between good vision and great
vision after cataract surgery can be attributed your surgeon's skills
and to the diagnostic technology used to calculate the appropriate IOL.
This technology in my hands provides our patients with the opportunity
for the best possible visual outcome.
- The IOLMaster is a great advancement in IOL
calculation.
- The risk of confusing right and left eye
measurements is eliminated with this technology. The IOLMaster
automatically detects the right or left eye while taking the
measurement.
- Axis length, corneal radii and
anterior-chamber depth of the eye are measured with the IOLMaster.
Multiple instruments integrated into one location provides our
patients with a higher level of comfort.
- Measuring the eye with the IOLMaster takes
less time than using ultrasound, the traditional form of measurement
that requires anesthesia.
Heidelberg Retinal Tomographer
It is estimated that over
two million Americans have some type of glaucoma and half of them do
not know it. Because vision lost to glaucoma cannot be restored, early
detection and treatment is essential.
During the past decade,
major eye centers around the world have used scanning laser systems
from Heidelberg Engineering for their research and clinical work.
The Heidelberg Retinal
Tomographer is an advanced diagnostic tool that can detect glaucoma at
its earliest stages. To develop this technology, Heidelberg Engineering
integrated the experience from more than one million exams, advice from
hundreds of users, and research data from around the world. They added
to that the latest available technology in electronics, optics, and
software, creating a glaucoma detection system that has become the
system of choice for ophthalmologists throughout the world.
Why I've
invested in the Heidelberg Retinal Tomographer:
- Study results have confirmed the technology
provides consistent data leading to precise diagnosis of glaucoma.
- The Heidelberg can accurately differentiate
between normal eyes and early glaucomatous eyes - before any vision
loss has occurred.
- The three-dimensional analysis by laser
scanning tomography has been shown to be superior to all other imaging
technologies.
- Because of its advantages, this technology is
now generally accepted and used to provide the best service possible
for glaucoma patients and patients at risk.
